Jimmy Kimmel Brings His Son Post-Heart Surgery On TV To Make A Heartbreaking Plea For Child Health Care

Jimmy is back with an important message and this time; he brought the adorable Billy with him! Very happy to share that his son is doing just fine, thank God. We couldn’t be more thrilled to hear the adorable little man is feeling better. Now, it was great to finally meet Billy and know that he is doing well after his surgery.  Kimmel’s monologue didn’t stop there; he went on to share a little information about something that he thought was important. Kimmel went on to drop a little knowledge about C.H.I.P. which is the Children’s Health Insurance Program which covers about 9 million kids across America and for some reason seems to be on the verge of losing its funding.

Over the summer you may remember Jimmy Kimmel’s absolutely touching announcement of the birth of his son, William John Kimmel. Billy was born with something called Tetralogy of Fallot With Pulmonary Atresia which is a form of heart issue. In the announcement that will for sure bring tears to your eyes Kimmel shares that his son’s first surgery was a success, but Billy would still need another in a few months. He also goes on to thank seemingly every person from the children’s hospital that helped his family; the video is very emotional. If you happened to miss it, I’d recommend checking it out. Basically, he owes the children’s health care system almost everything; it’s understandable why this topic obviously makes Kimmel emotional.

“I don’t know what could be more disgusting than putting a tax cut that goes to rich people ahead of the lives of children,”

This is a father who is still dealing with the fact that his child’s life was saved thanks to the fantastic doctors and nurses that stepped in and helped. Now, imagine if he couldn’t afford those doctors? That’s precisely why Jimmy finds it necessary to speak out against these funding issues. The goal is to prevent the government from cutting funding that could help improve a child’s chance of survival. Without these programs, millions of families can suffer and be denied life-saving treatment. Obviously, something needs to be done about this. Luckily, there are people like Jimmy Kimmel who are helping spread this information to the masses. It’s just unacceptable not to help a child in need; it’s not exactly rocket science.

“Overwhelmingly, Democrats and Republicans supported it until now. Now CHIP has become a bargaining chip. It’s on the back-burner while [Congress] works out their new tax plans. So that means parents of children with cancer and diabetes and heart problems are about to get letters saying their coverage could be cut off next month.”

Is Jimmy Kimmel using his platform of fame to bring eyes towards an issue he believes isn’t receiving enough attention? Sounds a lot like someone else we know who got crucified. Well, I’m glad he is, especially since we’re talking about children’s lives, people. The bottom line is that nobodies tax plans should come before the lives of 9 million children. There is no reason a child’s chance to live should be denied because a bunch of old dudes can’t agree over tax cuts. Thankfully, there are people like Jimmy Kimmel who are doing their best to make sure this doesn’t become a reality.
