Devout fans of Cardi B will remember her from her appearance on VH1’s Love & Hip-Hop: New York several years ago, but mostly people know her from her hit breakout track ‘Bodak Yellow.’ It would be no understatement to say Cardi is one of the breakout stars of 2017, meaning she’s constantly lining up big shot photoshoots and interviews.
So it was only a matter of time before she joined Jimmy Fallon in Studio 6A last Wednesday, and from the moment she sat down, she left him utterly devoid of words. She cracked the audience up by doing a little shimmy in her furry green jacket, and more so when she responded to Jimmy Fallon’s questioning the origin of her stage name.
“My name come from…You know what? My sister’s name is Hennessy. You know what I’m saying? My sister name is Hennessy, right? So, everybody used to call me Bacardi. So, I always call myself Bacardi, right?” the rapper, whose birth name is Belcalis Almanzar, said. “Then it was my Instagram name—like Bacardi, Bacardi B—but for some reason, my Instagram kept getting deleted; I think it was Bacardi that had something to do with it. So I just shortened it to Cardi B.”
Throughout the interview, Cardi B made the audience laugh with her tradermark “Okurrrrr!” and Jimmy, who couldn’t contain his laughter even more than usual, kept cracking up as she talked about not buying Christmas presents, her engagement with Migos’ Offset, and her upcoming track ‘Bartier Cardi’ featuring 21 Savage. GO GET THAT!
