Kim Kardashian Is Studying To Become A Lawyer And Twitter’s Got Some Thoughts

It’s Barrister Kim Kardashian West, thank you very much.

The reality TV star is planning on taking the California bar exam in 2022, she revealed in her recent Vogue May cover story, along with the fact that she’s been working as an apprentice with a San Francisco–based law firm since last summer.

“I had to think long and hard about this,” she said, adding that she’s been studying 18 hours a week to prepare to take the exam and juggling her time between filming Keeping Up With the Kardashians, expanding her beauty empire, and spending time with her family.

“The reading is what really gets me. It’s so time-consuming,” Kardashian West told Vogue. “The concepts I grasp in two seconds.”

Kardashian West was instrumental in the release of Alice Marie Johnson from prison last year, who served 21 years of her life sentence for a non-violent drug charge. In a now-famous meeting with Donald Trump, the reality star successfully convinced the president to commute Johnson’s prison sentence.

“This is the daughter of an accomplished attorney and the mother of three black kids who is using her full power to make a difference on a tough issue and is shockingly good at it,” Jones told Vogue.

Naturally, Twitter came through with the jokes.

All jokes aside, there were plenty who felt as though Kardashian West deserved some credit. After all, how many multi-millionaires have freed prisoners from unjust sentences? How many go out of their way to try to reform the prison system?

“It’s never one person who gets things done,” said Kardashian West. “It’s always a collective of people, and I’ve always known my role, but I just felt like I wanted to be able to fight for people who have paid their dues to society.”

California is one of four states that allows alternate methods to take the bar exam besides attending law school.
