If you’re like me and you’re not a natural blonde, getting your hair to be the exact shade you want can be hard. Not only is it expensive to get it professionally done frequently, but often times, when you’re going from dark to light–you don’t always get what you truly want.
I’ve always been a hair dye junkie since I was young–and I’ve probably had my hair dyed every single color at least twice. But, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve been trying to go one specific shade of ashy blonde. Somewhere a bit calmer than Khaleesi, but in the same family of white/gray.
Something like this:
I’ve spent hours browsing Pinterest, looking at Instagram influencers, and even looking at celebrities to find those amazing photos to show my hairdresser–who is a saint for putting up with all of my box-dye problems for years. Every time I have gone for highlights, however, they have come out beautifully…for about a few weeks.

Eventually, my hair oxidizes in the sun, with shampooing/conditioning, and with heat products.

While I enjoy being blonde, I don’t exactly enjoy being yellow. It’s really bad and harsh on my complexion and I really get impatient knowing that it’s not what I want it to be. So, I decided to dive into beauty blogs, Amazon reviews, and tons of “tips” online to find the best shampoo for my hair on the market.
I was up at 2 A.M.–because why not–looking through Amazon reviews on “purple shampoos and toners,” when I came upon Uniq: Blue Shampoo for Silver and Violet Tones. I was intrigued, originally, by the bottle which featured a model with a comparison of yellow hair and the ashy blonde/silver I have been trying to get for so long.
The product claims that in just a few washes, this shampoo will take your hair from yellow to silver. Clearly, I was excited. But, I never trust a product without reading reviews beforehand, because I’m paranoid about everything in life. So, I scrolled down on Amazon and began diving into reviews–I was shocked (in a good way). 72% of customers gave the shampoo 5 stars, and many of them included before and after photos.
I am a hairdresser in Dallas and got recommended this shampoo by a friend. Having used pretty much every silver shampoo on the market over the years I could not believe the results from this!! We used it on a client yesterday and I wanted to share the results here, it’s incredible. We left this on the clients hair for 5 minutes and the results speak for themselves. There is no additional dye or toners etc used, just the shampoo onto wet hair! Will buy more in for our customers for sure. I’m not a review writer ever, but hope this helps someone get the results they would need on a budget! But ladies it’s really strong, so read the instructions closely and step up the length of time you leave it on each time you use it, we left it on longer for another client and it went a lovely ash colour, very in trend. Hope this helps anyone reading this:) a must try for sure!

This product works great for removing unwanted yellow/orange tones. I have been struggling with removing orange tones from my hair due to well water and nothing was working. I am a natural blonde but my hair was turning dingy from my well water, decided to highlight it and the highlights kept turning yellow and a regular toner turned my hair right to purple. I did this shampoo with two washes. First was for about 3 minutes on the roots and 1 minute on the shaft of my hair, I definitely noticed a diference but wanted even more ashy. I washed my hair the next day for about 4 minutes on the roots and 1 minute on the shaft and got a really good look that I liked (pic above). It did turn a few of my highlights a purple hue but not enough to bother me. I am overall really happy with the product and have already recommended it to multiple people.
Huge difference after one use. It’s very drying, so get a good conditioner.

Obviously, I was sold and ordered myself a bottle. Not to mention, a bottle was only $25. Thanks to Amazon Prime, I got it within two days. Immediately, I used it on my slightly unwashed hair. As with any product, it’s important to follow directions. A few tips:
Make sure you wear the gloves they send you.
The shampoo is very bright purple, and if you have a white bathroom like me, you’ll want to lay some towels down, too. Reviews said that if you don’t use the gloves, it can leave some purple on your hands/body. Seeing as I’m a teacher, I didn’t want to show up to school the next day with purple hands for my 8th graders to question me. So, use the gloves.
Only leave it in for the proper amount of time.
I usually exceed time with hair dyes because I want the absolute most out of my hair dye, but, reviews also said if you do leave the shampoo in for too long, it will turn your hair a purple tint. Again–not wanting my 8th graders to question me–I went for the appropriate 3 minutes the box said.
Make sure you get a good conditioner.
Many customers said the shampoo dries out your hair. If you’re dying your hair blonde, chances are, you have a great deep conditioner already because bleach is drying AF. After washing out the shampoo (prepare for purple bathtub), make sure you leave the conditioner in for a few minutes before rinsing, as well. You should use a good mask after getting out if you choose to apply heart, too.
I chose to blow my hair out immediately after using the shampoo to 1) make sure I didn’t turn my hair purple and 2) to see how well the shampoo worked.
Final results:
This is after only one use of the shampoo for only three minutes. My bright yellow/orange hair color seemed to tone the F down pretty quickly. And, you can use the shampoo once every two weeks–which I’ll stick to because I don’t want to completely dry out my hair. The directions say the more you use it, the more time you can leave it in your hair (to build up to 10-15 minutes), however, seeing that only three minutes brought me somewhat close to the Khaleesi ashy blonde I have been craving for my entire life, I can say that this was one of my best purchases I’ve ever made.
