Prime your eyelids and let them dry before applying eyeshadow. When creating a bomb eyeshadow look, always prime your eyelids and then use a light, neutral color that matches your skin all over the lid. This creates a base to make it easier to blend deeper colors together. Also, instead of going in with a dark color right on top, build the colors up by slowly going darker. This is a very easy way to create a soft, blended eyeshadow look without looking like a 5-year-old applied your eyeshadow.

Before you use a matte liquid lipstick, you should always exfoliate and prime your lips with a serum. Cracked lips are off limits!

Use scotch tape angled from your eye to eyebrow for crisp and clean eyeshadow lines and a liquid eyeliner wing. Most helpful piece of advice I’ve ever gotten.

If you do your eyes before your foundation, and use toner, keep to the side whatever cotton pad you used to apply toner. After you’re done with eyeshadow, you can fold that puppy in half and swipe it from the corner of your eye to the end of your eyebrow for a sharp, clean look without using tape.

When it comes to eyeshadow, tap off the excess on the brush and hold the brush farther from the handle for more control.

Depending on your skin type, the same foundation that works for you in the summer may not work in the winter and vice versa. For example, I use a more moisturizing foundation in the winter (Too Faced Born This Way) and prefer a more matte coverage in the summer (Hourglass Stick Foundation).

There’s always those people who don’t know how to get their correct color in foundation. My tip is to use a foundation stick that your brand (in my case Bobbi Brown) also has in liquid foundation. I find the color I think is closest to a clients skin ton but I have them walk around the mall in different lights as well as walk in the sun. You always have to test it to make sure the color isn’t too orange, yellow, pink what have you.

First of all take care of your skin. A nice base always works best.
Second, keep your brushes clean. Nobody’s got time to clean them after every use (except your working with clients) but make it a regular thing.
Third, when doing a full face with heavy make up start with your eyeshadow, that way it’ll be easier to deal with fallout, also carve your eyebrows and lips to give it a cleaner look.

Especially f you have dry skin, you don’t need primer but if you want your eyeshadow to pop you can never have enough eyeshadow primer. If you don’t want to shell out for that though, any concealer you have works almost as well. On the subject of eyes, you don’t need to shell out for mascara, there is rarely any difference in formula and that’s only waterproof vs. non-waterproof or the color, the real difference between mascaras come into play with the wand, that’s it.
