Jackie’s Twitter followers—and beyond—obliged. If “1 RT could bring in a customer,” then La Casa was about to have a line that stretches way out the door, because the tweet got retweeted more than 60,000 times. It got an especially big bump when singer and actress Paulina Rubio sent the tweet out to her 11.5 million followers.
Well, thanks to the power of social media and people just helping each other out in even a very small way, it worked. Two days after Jackie sent out her tweet on December 6, business was booming at La Casa. Jackie’s dad said that pan dulce was selling like hotcakes, and that he had almost run out of conches, a Mexican sweet bread.

Tons of new customers came to La Casa, both from the Houston area and beyond. Jackie posted a photo of a couple who drive 45 minutes to get some baked goods.

And because social media can do anything, Jackie wisely set up an Instagram account and website for her father’s business, to make sure it stays in the conversation.

We’re glad to see that Twitter and social media can come together and do some good for some great people.
