For years, highlights have been trending in the beauty world for girls who aren’t natural blondes and want to add a bit of pop to their natural color. Whether it’s simple highlights, ombrés, or bayalage–we’ve seen it all. Now, girls are swapping out bleach and dye to give themselves some flavor for a night out, or even a day on the town with their gal pals by adding glitter to their strands. Glitter highlights are the latest social media trend to sweep the ‘gram and girls are living for it.

While the sparkles that appear in your hair look pretty cute at first glance, I can’t help but wonder how annoying it would be to brush your hair when there are globs of glue and glitter up in there. I remember whenever I would get glitter on myself from anything–art projects, clothing, Christmas decorations–it would be impossible to remove, let alone my hair. So, adding glitter to my hair seems pretty uncomfortable because it feels like it’ll take forever and a year to wash out.

And, while more beauty bloggers and popular girls online post photos with sparkles in their braids, I’m going to still protest and say, it looks cute in photos but doesn’t feel cute when you have to brush them out. But, hey, maybe I’m just a cynical b*tch and you can try it out yourself and let me know firsthand if I’m 900% wrong.
