21 Life Lessons I Wish I Knew At 21-Years-Old

11. The Law of Attraction actually works.

When I first heard about this, I thought it was some weird new-age thing, but I tried it, and let me tell you, it works. Changing the way your thought process works in a positive way literally changes your life. My boyfriend and I used to dream out loud about me quitting my part-time job to write full-time while I finished undergrad, and I thought that it was just a fun little dream we had, but here I am, doing exactly what we would dream about. It’s wild.

12. Prayer works.

I am a religious person. If you’re not, that’s fine, but in my life, I’ve learned that praying works. Putting your faith into something, regardless of what or who you believe in, can change your life, and I’m so happy I learned this sooner rather than later.

13. Don’t listen to anybody who tells you that your passion will get you nowhere.

People who tell you these things are the worst. Again, it’s your life, and if you are passionate about something and if you really love something, you will go places with it. It’s simple human nature- we put more effort into things that we love. If you work every day doing something that you love, it’ll become something bigger than just a dream. I promise.

14. Go to therapy.

Therapy helps a lot. Get rid of the stigma surrounding therapy, because regardless of what everybody thinks, you don’t need to be suffering from a mental illness to want to talk to someone. Therapists are literally paid to be unbiased and listen to people, so why not use that?

15. Your feelings are valid, regardless of what other people might say.

In your life, people will try to make your feelings invalid. People might not agree with you and therefore tell you, you’re wrong for feeling the way that you do, but let me tell you right now, you’re not wrong. You’re never wrong for having emotions and it took me so long to realize that, but it’s so important that I did.
