21 Life Lessons I Wish I Knew At 21-Years-Old

6. Don’t change how you look just because a boy thinks it’ll look better.

It’s not worth it, I promise you.

7. If a boy tells you he’s in a frat, run away.

Also not worth it. Frat boys, from my experience, love only three things: themselves, their frat brothers, and seeing how many girls they can get in one night.

8. You will find someone who treats you like the angel you deserve to be treated like, I promise.

You might have to go through a few people who treat you less than you deserve, but I promise, you’ll find the person who wants nothing more than to love you with everything that they’ve got. Wait for that person, it’s so worth it. Don’t let a bad experience with a person stop you from finding the one that you were meant to be with.

9. Your family members are your best friends.

At this point in my life, I’ve gone through enough toxic friends to know that my family members, both biological and chosen, are the only people that I can actually trust. My family members are my only friends at this point, let’s be real. I remember when I used to get so embarrassed by things that my dad did in public or when he’d try to hold my hand while crossing the street and now, I’m right up there laughing along with him and I still sometimes hold his hand while I cross big intersections. No shame.

10. Finding things that keep you grounded is so important.

Let me say this again. Find things that keep you grounded. Self-care is important. In high school, I learned that laying down on the kitchen floor and blasting Elvis on the speakers really helped to ground myself when I got overwhelmed. It still works today. It doesn’t matter how odd you may look, if it helps you detract from the stresses of everyday life, it’s worth doing.
