The Internet has been graced with the final trailer for Stranger Things 2 before the entire season hits Netflix on October 27 (a Friday, so wave goodbye to that entire weekend). On Friday the 13th, no less!
Last season ended with Will Byers’ return from the Upside Down into his mothers’ trembling arms. But the joy quickly seeps from this long-awaited moment when it becomes clear something about Will is…off. He’s brought the Upside Down back with him, and in so doing has created an ominous portal between his world and the next.
The trailer confirms Finn Wolfhard’s (Mike in the show) assertion that this season will be “a lot more horror-orientated… There are going to be some challenges that the characters face that are real. That are disturbing.” I don’t know if anything will be more disturbing than Barb’s untimely demise, but hit me with your best shot, Netflix.
Just as in the first season, there are plenty of nods to classic Hollywood horror flicks—Ghostbusters, Halloween, and Goonies, to name a few. Although maybe that last one is mostly due to Sean Astin’s presence. Sean Astin!
The really scary Matrix-y/Terminator-y monster and eerie synth score provided by S U R V I V E promise to ramp up the spookiness of the season.
There’s Winona Ryder continuing to make this face a lot:
There’s Eleven, with her signature nosebleed and a non-signature head of curls. She lives!
And there’s Sean Astin. Sean Astin!
