It’s no secret that women love Target. No matter where you live, how old you are or what you’re going to Target to shop for, you end up buying way more than you anticipated and it’s always a jam-packed adventure going there. It’s like leaving a guy alone in Dick’s Sporting Goods or something – you know, you get lost in the sauce. Strolling through her local Target was Tanya St. Preux along with her friend to run some usual errands. Everything was going spiffy till some not so usual contractions started to occur. Tanya was officially in labor…at Target. Talk about an epic shopping day.
Thankfully, Caris Lockwood was not very far out of reach. An off-duty labor and delivery nurse at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital who was also shopping with her mother and her sister, she didn’t have to think twice and as Tanya’s friend ran to grab the car, she and her mother helped Tanya out of the store.
As they made their way out, Tanya’s water eventually broke and all hell broke loose. Knowing what was to come next, she directed her sister to run back inside and buy the essential tools she would need to deliver the baby as safely as she could despite the circumstances.
She stated:
I didn’t think she was going to deliver that fast at first, but then she had a really painful contraction and her water broke. As a labor and delivery nurse, I kind of knew what was about to happen.
And of course, strangers weren’t far from observation. Prospective shoppers started lining up to the scene to check out all the commotion. It wasn’t until about 20 minutes later that Caris eventually delivered Tanya’s baby boy named Maleek, who ended up weighing about 7lb.10oz.
Tanya exclaimed:
Caris was God-sent and amazing. She was sweet and caring and exceeded everyone’s expectations. She went way over far and beyond.
Caris was able to cut the umbilical cord just moments after the paramedics arrived. Tanya and her newborn were then promptly transported to the Piedmont Atlanta Hospital where Caris was able to officially take over and provide them with the utmost care.
Shopping at Target officially just got way cooler.
