For years now, celebrities have used their social media pages as a way to endorse some of their “favorite products.” The reason why I put quotations around “favorite products,” is because the majority of their “opinions” are bullsh*t and instead, paychecks with dozens of zeros on the end.
Celebrities don’t actually use all of the products they endorse and instead, are collecting huge salaries to promote and pretend they do. Some people will do anything to make their money and celebs, although they have booming careers, need to make even more by lying to us to sell products. Go figure.
Recently, the Federal Trade Commission slammed dozens of celebs who are known for posting sponsored ads online – even fining some of them. According to the report, many celebrities didn’t differentiate their regular photos from their sponsored photos – inciting that from now on, celebs have to #ad or #sponsored on their pictures they are getting paid for.
As well, reports are now claiming that 93 percent of celebrity social media endorsements and sponsored posts violate the Federal Trade Commission’s guidelines.
While some celebs have read the guidelines and understood that ads and sponsored posts must be mapped out as such, other celebs are falling behind – hence, they are getting huge fines and some even being reported for their posts.
So, look out for product posts online that your fave celebs may be posting – and, just because they say a product works, doesn’t mean the product really works. Be aware!
