If you’ve ever been to a museum or art exhibit, you’d know that sometimes art is unexplainable. Anything can be art if it makes you feel something, right? Even if that feeling is confused.
One student from Robert Gordon University in Scotland decided to play with his school’s art gallery and make an example of how “basic” art can be. Ruiari Gray and his friends decided to leave a pineapple in the middle of the art gallery and wanted to see how many people thought it was actually “art.”
Apparently, that wasn’t even the original prank. At first, Gray had brought the pineapple in as a prank on his friend who was allergic. But, the friend didn’t find it all that funny – I mean, who really wants to die?
Instead, the group decided to leave the pineapple behind as a “new prank.”
Gray’s friend, Lloyd Jack tweeted the photos as proof that the galley really bought into their idea of “art.” Gray told The Daily Mail,
“I came in later and it had been put in a glass case – it’s the funniest thing that has happened all year. My honors supervisor saw it and asked an art lecturer if it was real because he could not believe it.”
Next time you’re in a museum or art gallery and don’t understand why something is there or considered art – maybe it’s not really “art” at all.
