Let’s not beat around the bush — there’s no denying both Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin got engaged unusually quickly. Three of the four people involved (everyone except Hailey Baldwin) had just gotten out of long-term relationships relatively recently, so at first, it seemed like their new super intense relationships might just have been rebounds.
That’s maybe not the best time to get engaged, but no judgment here! These celebrities are young and beautiful and in love and who’s to say if the relationships will work or not. Certainly not me! And, of course, they’re not the first couples to rush to the ring. Here are a few other stories, including theirs, of celebrity couples who got engaged (or married!) really, really fast.
9. Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin
Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin may have gotten engaged pretty quickly after they started dating, but the singer and the model have actually known each other for a long time. They’d dated (or at least hooked up) previously, in 2014 and 2016.
In an interview with GQ in 2016, Bieber said of Hailey: “[She’s] someone I really love. We spend a lot of time together. . .What if Hailey ends up being the girl I’m gonna marry, right? If I rush into anything, if I damage her, then it’s always gonna be damaged … I just don’t want to hurt her.”
Their current relationship started up again sometime around June 11. That’s when E! News published a report that the pair were “inseparable” during a weekend trip to Miami.
Justin confirmed that he was engaged to Hailey, who’s Alec Baldwin’s niece, via – what else – Instagram on July 9. He’d apparently proposed on July 8 in front of a whole crowd of people at a resort in the Bahamas.
8. Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson’s relationship has been a real whirlwind. On May 9, TMZ reported that Ariana Grande and boyfriend Mac Miller had broken up after two years. Three days later, Grande was seen with Pete Davidson at an SNL afterparty. Then, on May 16, Davidson let it slip that he and his girlfriend of two years, Cazzie David (daughter of Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Larry David), had broken up. By May 17, he’d already had his tattoo of her covered up.
The next day, Bossip was the first to report that Grande and Davidson were a couple.
On May 30, the couple became Instagram official with a picture on Pete’s account (which has since been deleted, just like the rest of his pictures) of him and Grande in Harry Potter robes.
By June 2, tattoo addict Davidson had already gotten not one but two AG tattoos – one of her initials and another of her infamous bunny ears behind his ear.
By June 11, rumors started that the couple was engaged. And on June 15, Davidson posted a pic on Insta showing a big ol’ rock on Grande’s finger, along with the caption, “u know what you’d dream it be like? It’s better than that.”
7. Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna
Theirs was a real roller coaster ride of a relationship. The pair got engaged just four months after they started dating, and announced it on Instagram.
Blac Chyna (real name Angela Renee) got pregnant and the couple was still together when she had the baby, a girl named Dream. But the pair never did get married, and their breakup was a messy one.
6. Benji Madden and Cameron Diaz
5. Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford
4. Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon
3. Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom
2. Katy Perry and Russell Brand
1. Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee
Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee are the winners of the Who Can Get Married the Quickest? contest. They got married in 1995 just four days after they first met. Four days. Anderson’s own mother called the situation “heartbreaking and shocking.” They met on New Year’s Eve when Lee was high on ecstasy. He explained, “On ecstasy, Joan Rivers looks like Pamela Anderson, so imagine what Pamela Anderson looked like. I just stared at her all night, and she just stared back.” He followed her to a modeling shoot, and they partied for a few days. Then Lee took off his pinky ring, put it on her finger and asked her to marry him. Instead of buying rings, they had them tattooed on their fingers.
Surprisingly enough, that marriage actually lasted three years. They had two sons together, Brandon Thomas Lee and Dylan Jagger Lee.
The couple split in 1998 and after pleading no contest to assaulting Anderson while she was holding one of their children, Lee served four months in prison. The couple got back together in 2008, but it didn’t stick that time either.
