For the first time in history, an awards show was centered on not only celebrity attire and celebratory circle-jerk— it addressed Hollywood’s rampant sexual harassment and assault problem. Celebrities showed and spoke their truths; they wore black outfits and TimesUp pins in support of the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements and many of them addressed the gender and race inequality and sexual harassment issues in Hollywood during their speeches.
But a lot of funny stuff happened too.
