Some thought the father was wrong for saying girls aren’t into makeup and shouldn’t have to attend the workshop.
Theres nothing wrong with girls playing with makeup…brings much joy to many girls

I bet that if you let your daughter choose without pressure, she would opt voor the hair and makeup thing. I know it's not cool and/or genderneutral but as an experianced father of at least 2 daughters I know this to be true.

Sometimes it is just ok for girls to do girl things?

Others, however, agreed and said it was ridiculous.
My son is 13 and they have different sport classes and teachers for the boys & girls! What sort of example is that setting? Does my head in.

My school did this in 2005 when I was in grade 5. We (girls) had to weave baskets made of plastic string and talk about 'empowering girls' (the irony is astounding) and the boys built billy carts. I kid you not.

It infuriates me that there are people responsible for *educating our children* who think this is remotely OK

Utterly perfect. I personally loved the time travel aspect. But srsly, i am a lady person and i love makeup to an unhealthy degree but I'd be pissed off AF if I'd been made to do that or if it had been my daughter

Thank you for this. My 3yo son was recently excluded from a doll’s picnic at daycare as it was for the girls. We need to stop gendering activities.

I don't wear makeup I don't brush my hair even hardly and Bunnings is my favourite. I hope my daughter is the same. Girls should not be shepherded away from that! Bunnings is life.

Anything anyone tells her is bullshit. She can do anything she wants to do. Amd she can be anything she wants to be. Some roads are harder than others & there are allies in many corners. I'm there for her if she needs another one.

Ruby’s father shared with Twitter that teachers were unhappy with his letter and are sending his wife some horrifying texts. He also issued a “thank you” to the Twitter users who took the time out to comment on the issue.
Remember last year when my wife was bullied by Dept. Education teachers for standing up for the rights of indigenous children to receive quality education?
Those same teachers are now sending her bullying text messages about my letter to Ruby's school.

Ruby and I would like to thank you for the great comments of support. At 12 years of age my daughter is starting to notice there are plenty of people prepared to tell her what she can & can't do based solely on the fact she is female.
She would like this to change.
So would I.— Grumplestiltskin (@2FBS) December 7, 2017
Hopefully, this school changes its policy and allows students to make their own choices.
