In one of his nastiest tweets from 2011, Shelton appears to advocate violence against gay men, turning a Shania Twain song into a…homophobic ‘joke?’ I guess? “Re-writing my fav Shania Twain song… Any man that tries Touching my behind He’s gonna be a beaten, bleedin’, heaving kind of guy…”
Like, don’t worry my dude, ain’t no gay men tryna touch your insecure homophobic behind.
The tweed led to Shelton being called out by GLAAD in the following statement: “This is one of the judges on what’s so far been one of the most gay-friendly reality shows on television. For him to make a joke to his 300,000-plus followers about leaving a gay man ‘beaten, bleeding and heaving’ is completely unacceptable.”
Then there are the racist tweets.
I don’t know what’s more upsetting, that Shelton was named People‘s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ or that over 1,000 people retweeted the above. Although it makes sense, considering the only people who could call themselves fans of his sh*tty music are the same ones defending People’s misguided decision.
It took Shelton five years to apologize for the tweets. Despite being 40 years old he blamed his immaturity.

Perhaps the only comedic thing about this entire situation is the fact that Blake Shelton believes comedy has been “a major part of” his career? Like…my dude, what alternate reality are you living in?
