‘Game of Thrones’ Is Apparently Based On A True Story In History And My Mind Is Officially Blown

Edward York/Robb Stark

Richard of York had a son Edward York, who would not take his father’s death lightly. He declared war against the queen and the Lancaster’s and claimed that he was the rightful king. In absolute Robb Stark fashion, he actually ended up being an absolute military genius. He went on to dismantle Henry VI’s military forces. Henry VI was defeated. As for Margaret’s evil ass, she ended up escaping from the country with their son who was known to be a very cruel evil person.(Sup Joffrey?) Her son was also named Edward so let’s thank Mr. Martin for clearing up the whole name fiasco going down in medieval England.

Any of this sound familiar at all? maybe at least a little bit? Well, it gets better! Edward York in maybe the most Robb Starkish move there is ended up backing out of his arranged marriage to secretly marry a girl he actually loved. Not a good move Edward/Robb! This brought the country into a period of war it also brought the death of young Edward Lancaster. It probably didn’t bother Edward York too much seeing as he finally avenged his father and locked down the throne until he died.

Richard III

More Thrones drama coming at you! After Edward York’s death, his younger brother, Richard III, ended up claiming the throne for himself. He did so because he declared Edward had married in secret, which means his kids weren’t legit and therefore, can not take the crown. Richard, now ruling the country bounced his two nephews and eventually had them locked up in the Tower of London, can’t make a claim for the throne if you are never seen or heard of again. Am I right?

Stannis Baratheon?

Historically, Richard III is viewed as an evil man. A lot of evidence goes against this idea but many believe it was the fact he had a hunch back and you know, probably murdered his nephews. Richard III is a definite influence on Stannis Baratheon. He wants to discredit his nephews and control power himself, he’s also looked at historically as a pretty cold miserable person. You know? like maybe the type of person who would light their own daughter on fire as a sacrifice! Looking at you, Stannis!

A little bit of Tyrion

History remembers Richard as an extremely short man. It is also known that he was unbelievably witty, intelligent, and cunning. So intelligent, that it is credited to Richard for implementing many economic ideas that would help the common people. So – short, smart, accused of killing his nephews, stands up for the little guy – I know you guys can guess this one. Seems to share a lot of traits with our boy Tyrion Lannister. Richard III didn’t hold the throne for long. Little did he know a new player was eyeing the throne and was plotting an invasion from across the sea.
