Whether we’re hearing about someone breaking them, or hurting themselves trying to succumb to them, or even just getting shamed for adhering to them, it’s a constant presence in our connected and visual world.
However, when we think of beauty standards, we tend to think only of American beauty standards. It may be because we pretty much invented modern beauty standards — with Hollywood starlets and Playboy magazines, and Victoria’s Secret catalogues — but also because Americans usually only think of America anyway.
But did you know that other countries have — get this — DIFFERENT beauty standards?! It’s true. The ideal of beauty varies depending on where you are in the world, and to prove it, one woman used photoshop to transform her body into the beautiful archetypes of the world.
