When you lie on the internet, you play a dangerous game. On the one hand, most people are morons. You can literally say that there’s a Somali prince that wants to give you millions of dollars — or that there’s an underground prostitution ring in a pizza parlor — and some portion of the population will believe you.
On the other hand, this is the internet. You’re lying to people who are a single click away from being able to verify whatever you say or completely bust you. Making up a hot girlfriend, for example, is harder to do when you’re doing it to a bunch of people with Google’s reverse image search at their fingertips.
That’s why, when people lie on social media, they often get called right the f*** out. And it. is. glorious.
