Remember Faceapp? The app-turned-viral-trend that let people see what they would look like if they were older, younger or a different gender?

We all had fun laughing about it and freaking each other out for a couple months but then it just kind of went off the map. No big deal. It happens.
Well, in what can only be described as a bold move, Faceapp has just released a new update with some strange features. Namely, the app now lets you photograph yourself as different races.
It’s… as weird as it sounds:

But also… still pretty funny?

The update is sure to be controversial and is already being received pretty negatively on social media. After all Snapchat came under fire for “digital blackface” when they released a Bob Marley filter on 4/20.
Time will tell, but I’d be surprised if this didn’t end up being seen as a dumb move. That said, if Faceapp just wanted to stay culturally relevant, this is one way to do it. One strange, strange way.
