Spoilers for Game of Thrones, season 7 below.
Is it weird that Drogon is one of my favorite characters on Game of Thrones? I mean sure, he has no lines and is secretly just a big green blob on a stick:
But we’ve watched that green blob grow up for seven straight seasons. From roasting tiny bits of meat, to freeing slaves, to being locked away in the basement — we’ve been through a lot together.
After seeing him in season seven episode 4, roasting practically the entire Lannister army in one shot, we felt like a bunch of proud dragon moms watching their kid graduate college. With just a little less fire.
Unfortunately, Drogon didn’t make it through the epic loot-train battle unscathed. He took a nasty hit to the shoulder thanks to Bronn and the super-secret, highly-advanced, wait-isn’t-it-just-a-giant-crossbow, weapon known as the Scorpion.
And if one Reddit theory is to be believed, Drogon’s shoulder injury hints at sad things to come.
Via Reddit user Konfliction:
I loved how poetic it was that Drogon, the dragon named after Khal Drogo, was the one leading the Dothraki attack on the Lannisters. It just seems to perfect that not only was Drogon leading the attack, but he also suffered the same injury as Drogo, an attack to the shoulder (albeit, opposite shoulder).
Ruh-roh. In case you don’t remember, Khal Drogo died from that hit to the shoulder getting infected and not even spooky black magic could bring him back.
Is it possible that Drogon’s wound will get infected too? Or could the Scorpion bolts be poisoned? Scorpions are poisonous after all, and we saw Cersei f***ing around with revenge-poison just an episode earlier.
Either way, if something happens to Drogon it could very well be among the saddest Game of Thrones deaths ever.
