In Game of Thrones, it’s important that you pay attention to literally every single moment of the show – from start to finish. If you miss something, rewind and watch it again because you never know what important bit of information you missed while you were texting your friends about the intense battle scene that just went down.
While watching the latest episode of season seven – one Reddit user pnr32 – was thinking about something that our dear old friend Robert Baratheon said in season one that basically summed up everything that was happening to his cheating wife, Cersei Lannister.
If you pay attention to their conversation from season one, you can see how Robert mapped out Cersei’s fate from day one.
Let’s say Viserys Targaryen lands with 40,000 Dothraki screamers at his back. We hole up in our castles. A wise move. Only a fool would meet the Dothraki in an open field. They leave us in our castles. They go from town to town, looting and burning, killing every man who can’t hide behind a stone wall, stealing all our crops and livestock, enslaving all our women and children. How long do the people of the Seven Kingdoms stand behind their absentee king, their cowardly king hiding behind high walls? When do the people decide that Viserys Targaryen is the rightful monarch after all?
Sounds pretty much what is going down right now – just with Dany sitting as their leader instead of Viserys.
Cersei responds to Robert saying:
We still outnumber them.
Which is the bigger number, five or one?
One army, a real army, united behind one leader with one purpose. Our purpose died with the Mad King.
Essentially, what Robert is foreshadowing to is that if the people in an army are united for one purpose and one cause, they will fight better having a direction and goal. Sounds pretty similar to something Tyrion said on this week’s episode, too.
My sister’s armies fight for her out of fear. The Unsullied will be fighting for something greater: they will be fighting for freedom and the person who gave it to them. They will be fighting for you, and that is why they will triumph.
While we haven’t seen the official Dany vs. Cersei blood bath – I’m sure it’s coming sometime before the shows finale. Dany is already ready to take Cersei down and take the Iron Throne, and, her army has one leader with one purpose. It seems like everything has been set up in Robert’s eyes from the get-go – too bad he died so early on.
