El Paso, TX: Meet Ed Johnson, an 80-year-old man who, as of recently lost his wife of 59 years to Liver Cancer in April of 2016, and since then has turned into one of Whataburger’s morning regulars. A tradition he chose to revisit from his earlier days working at a phone company.
Ed decided it was best to get out of the house and slowly find his old self again after his wife’s passing.
This eventually lead him to gain popularity for his bubbly and upbeat personality, enticing the fondness of the Whataburger staff and their customers.
Upon hearing of his up and coming birthday, the general manager of the Whataburger location Ed frequents, Salvador Saucedo, decided to plan out something special for the birthday boy.
A table was set, balloons were placed, and cake was served on Monday, July 24th. Expecting to walk in and order his usual Whataburger breakfast and coffee, Ed walked in to find his friends and family celebrating in contentment:
Ed’s granddaughter, Emma Carr said:
“He was speechless and teared up. He is very humble and has always put his family and friends before himself.”
Emma was kind enough to spread the news to the world:
My grandpa goes to @Whataburger everyday for breakfast so the local workers surprised him today with a cake&balloons for his birthday. pic.twitter.com/hZkW3VPfrH
