Lesbian Couple Become The First Same-Sex Prom King & Queen At High School

This is everything.

With so many changes taking place within society over the last few years to push forward the acceptance of same-sex marriage, we’ve seen some incredible stories and moments that make us believe that love is love. Of course, there are those moments in time where we see such cruel, hate-filled and torturous acts against the LGBTQ community that always leave us wondering – why?

But, when we see moments like this happen, it gives us a little more faith in humanity.

Brie Grimes and Lindsey Creel are a same-sex lesbian couple that have been dating for three years since meeting at their Florida high school – Leon High School. After spending three incredible years together throughout their high school lives, they obviously took each other to prom.

While the ability to take each other to prom is incredible – some schools have actually banned same-sex couples from attending prom together – these two made history at their high school by being the first same-sex couple to win the titles of prom king and queen. At the prom, however, they were crowned “Prom Queen and Queen,” which completely melts our hearts.

Brie spoke out in gratitude for the acceptance of the LGBTQ community at Leon High School – not only do they have a successful LGBTQ acceptance club, but she stated that the faculty and peers amongst the couple at school are very accepting.

She also said, in regards to her relationship with Lindsey:

“I knew I had feelings for her but everything was so hard because I didn’t know how everyone would react and I was scared of how I would be treated and how my family would react.

Lindsey and I talked about it and from that conversation I knew I was at home when I was with her and that I couldn’t let her go.

I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Lindsey said that for her it was love at first sight.”

Twitter was living for this moment entirely.

It just goes to show you that a little bit of acceptance can go a very, very long way. I truly believe all high schools should take notes from this small Florida school. The sooner we teach our children about acceptance, the further we can carry the message.
