Hanging out with friends on Zoom or other video platforms is how we socialize now—and it’s no different with celebrities who are quarantined. Meryl Streep, Audra McDonald, and Christine Baranski got together online and showed us how to do it in style, wearing bathrobes, sipping cocktails, and singing Stephen Sondheim songs.
The ladies were participating in an online tribute to Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim on his 90th birthday. Baranski’s drink of choice was a large glass of red wine. McDonald sipped on bourbon. And Streep, the champion, shook up a martini as well as drank whiskey from the bottle.
While enjoying their cocktails and the comfort of a cozy bathrobe, they performed “The Ladies Who Lunch” from the musical Company—and raised the bar on how we hang out with friends during quarantine.
The free online event, which aired on Broadway.com and YouTube, also featured performances by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Neil Patrick Harris, Patti LuPone, and Jake Gyllenhaal. Proceeds went to Artists Striving to End Poverty.
