Hailed as another win for Asian-American representation, the Netflix film To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before has been acclaimed as an authentic and beautiful portrayal of a young girl’s coming-of-age. It’s too bad that the actor who plays one of her love interests, Israel Broussard, has a history of posting and liking problematic tweets.
Fans allegedly found some unsettling old tweets from the actor’s account, which included posts criticizing the Black Lives Matter movement and anti-Asian, anti-Muslim, and anti-immigration sentiments. Broussard, who plays Josh in the new Netflix original, also liked tweets from President Donald Trump and other controversial public figures.
Broussard’s questionable tweets have now been deleted, but users posted screenshots.

Look at this! These are some of Israel Broussard's most recent likes. It really sucks that this man got to star in the rare film that had an Asian-American woman as the romantic lead #AllTheBoysIveLovedBefore pic.twitter.com/OE2tcIfmhI

“Dogs can sense earthquakes. Too bad Japan ate them all,” Broussard wrote in one tweet. According to user Seb_Paradise, the actor posted it on July 12, 2011, two days after a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Japan.
Some users claimed that Broussard was following Trump on Twitter, but as of press time he was not following the president. Broussard also liked a tweet from conspiracy theorist David Icke concerning the Sandy Hook shooting, which some people wrongly believe to be a staged event.
i am very upset to see that israel broussard is not only a trump supporter, but feels this way about black lives matter. granted, this was almost 3 years ago and a part of me wishes he's been educated on blm and why it's important, but it's not deleted. he's liked many tweets in pic.twitter.com/ALGPr8P8e3

support of trump and the republican party and liked this about the sandy hook shooting. he doesn't reply to people on twitter but if he sees this, i hope his views have changed and that he's been educated on how horrible trump is and why black lives matter. @israelbroussard pic.twitter.com/i4h5K3iqKz

Following the revelation of problematic tweets, some fans denounced Broussard.
Wow, so Israel Broussard is a Trump supporter, anti-muslim, anti-BLM, racist, etc? I am sorely disappointed. I watched #ToAllTheBoysIveLovedBefore mainly because of him. I saw him in some movies and had a crush on him. Knowing that he starred opposite POC actors… pic.twitter.com/UjLPhyfTAU

No wonder Lara Jean ended up with Peter Kavinsky instead of him.
