People Are In Love With This 5-Year-Old’s Handmade ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Dress

In today’s social media age, many parents use Instagram and other networks to promote their work, and their children. Mom bloggers and fashion-mavens have become a staple in the photo-sharing network, as followers can’t help but love adorable toddlers dressed in gorgeous outfits.
Recently, one 5-year-old and her mother went viral online for their version of a dress featured in the new movie, Crazy Rich Asians. The film, which is about an Asian couple and their struggle to make their relationship work after the girlfriend finds out her boyfriend’s family is one of the wealthiest in Singapore, is making waves in the industry for being the first major studio film with an all-Asian cast and leads in 25 years.

The films’ trailer features actress Constance Wu wearing a gorgeous blue dress that is sincerely breathtaking.

Miami-based blogger and mother Ha Truong knew she had to recreate the wonderful dress for her daughter, Olivia. The two are frequently posting their fashion moments on Instagram for their 8,000 followers.

The mom says she “always loves making costumes for her daughter,” and knew that this one would be extra special.

Ha told BuzzFeed:

“My sewing skills don’t go beyond eighth grade home economics, so I play everything by eye.

“It’s [composed of] two skirts, four strips of un-sewn tulle, and hand-sewn flowers.”

When Olivia saw the dress, she was in awe. Her mother posted a very touching caption about why the dress was so important to her and her daughter.

When Liv was in preschool, her classmates would ask her if she’s Chinese. She’d come home asking if everyone (Asian) is Chinese; she’s Vietnamese and Thai. She didn’t “see” herself at school and her peers didn’t see her.

When she put on this dress, it gave her a spark. She calls out for me at random now and will say “immigrant stories are stories of dreams, of love, of sacrifice, of courage, of honor.” << @constancewu quote.

People loved the dress so much, that it caught the eye of Constance Wu herself. She reposted Olivia’s videos on her own Instagram page.

Ha also said that her whole family went to see the movie the night it opened in theaters–even Olivia, who was begging to see the film since she put the dress on the very first day.

How beautiful?!
