Breastfeeding is an incredible way for many moms to connect with their children while feeding and nurturing them. For many mothers, it’s a special experience. But, not all mothers are around to constantly breastfeed their children–and, not all mothers are able to produce enough milk to do so at all.
For this reason, there are women who become wet nurses or use their extra breast milk to provide for other mothers and children. While for many, this is a normal experience, others are uncomfortable with allowing another woman to breastfeed their child (even if it’s a professional).
That’s why one mother’s photo on Facebook is dividing users on the social networking website. Meg, who runs the website TheMilkMeg.com, posted a photo breastfeeding her nephew saying:
My gorgeous little nephew! While my sister was at work today I tried to give him a bottle of her expressed milk a few times (which he wouldn’t take). I could see he was tired so I popped him on the boob and voila, he was asleep in minutes.
Obviously, Meg’s decision to breastfeed her nephew was innocent and coming from a good, caring, loving place. And, many recognized this and supported her decision.
However, there were some who were uncomfortable with the idea of allowing another woman to breastfeed their child.
I personally don’t see anything wrong with this. I think that if her sister was okay with it and Meg was producing enough milk to feed her own children and her nephew, it’s a beautiful thing to be able to help. What do you think?
