One Line From The Movie ‘Legally Blonde’ Actually Saved Someone From Committing Suicide

Going through depression is something that’s difficult to pull yourself out of. For those who suffer from severe depression, there are times in which they think about harming themselves or even committing suicide. It’s a scary reality that too many people know all too well.

One guy, however, was saved in a pretty unconventional way. According to a writer from the classic Reese Witherspoon movie, “Legally Blonde,” one guy was “saved” by one specific line in the movie.

Co-writer Karen McCullah told Entertainment Weekly that she received an email from a guy who said he was suffering from depression and wanted to hurt himself, but, a friend had called him to go out dancing that same evening.

He said no, he didn’t want to go out. And then after he hung up the phone, he remembered the line, ‘Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy.’ So he called the friend back, went dancing, had a great time, decided not to kill himself, and wrote me a letter saying, ‘That line saved my life.’

The line came about in the movie when Elle Woods was representing a fitness instructor in a murder trial, claiming that happy people just “don’t shoot their husbands.”

McCullah said:

“What an offhand line to end up being so meaningful to someone. That blew my mind.”

You never know what can impact someone’s life for the better.
