Portia explained through a beautiful video montage that Ellen has always looked up to Dian Fossey. Fossey was an activist, conservationist, and researcher who specialized in gorilla research. In the ’70s, she appeared on National Geographic and her research and work provided insightful knowledge about wildlife and gorillas. She was murdered in 1985. Portia said Ellen always looked up to Fossey for her bravery and had always wanted to interview her. As a gift, Portia set up “The Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund in Rwanda.” She also set up “The Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund.”
Ellen was so moved, she began crying. And, Portia cried too. Seriously, I’m crying. How sweet, meaningful and moving?!?
