7. The Bell Jar – Sylvia Plath:
Hester is abused and loved, by herself and by others. She’s extremely mentally unstable and independent as hell. Read as Sylvia Plath demolishes the mental health system, education for women in the 1960s, and just generally other amazing things. If you didn’t read this in school, it’s not too late.

Sexuality in our adolescence is something a lot of people are too afraid to talk about. But the way our sexuality is cultivated it’s vital to the way we as women develop over time. This is a story about a woman and her story of growth. It’s haunting and beautiful, and equally as witty and humorous. If you’re looking for a story about the female experience, look no further.

9. Eleanor And Park – Rainbow Rowell:
Eleanor and Park was everything I wanted in a YA novel. It had the fun teenage love, the quirky, relatable characters, and a ton of necessary social commentary. And Rainbow Rowell? That name alone makes me want to read it. This is a 10/10 book, let me tell ya.
