Let me start off by saying – parents are allowed to parent in any way they choose. As long as they are not putting their children in any kind of harm or danger, they should be allowed to teach their children the way they want and, allow their children to do things that they deem okay. It’s time to end Mommy/Daddy shaming online because, guess what, no parents are “perfect.”
Recently, people attacked actress Megan Fox after she shared some polaroids of her family and, in one of the photos, her son is wearing a “Frozen” dress. It’s normal for younger kids to play “dress up” and there is nothing wrong with a boy wanted to wear a dress. Absolutely. Nothing. Wrong.
But, with the Internet being an ignorant and bigoted place – people had really rude and malicious thoughts about this.
“It is not okay for a boy to walk around in their mother’s heels. Just like it’s NOT okay for a child to be disrespectful. So again that’s when it’s the parent’s job to instruct the child in the RIGHT way.”
Other people wrote:
“I don’t think so… What kind of boy is dressing like a girl…”
” JUST THINK IS NOT A GOOD IDEA…BOYS LEARN VERY QUICKLY AT THAT AGE AND CAN START THINKING IT’S OK. SORRY TO BE HONEST.”
But, there were hundreds of comments that thought Fox was being a “great mom” for allowing her son to be who he wants to be and wear what he wants to wear – and we’re on this side of the argument. Children are allowed to be who they want to be, and, confining them into the “societal gender norms” also confines them to be society’s version of themselves – and not, actually, themselves. As well, it perpetuates the anti-LGBTQ ideologies within society.
Grow up and expand your mind.
