Older ‘Millennials’ Have A Brand New Name For Themselves Because, They’re ‘Not Millennials’

As many of you know, people born in the age of the “digital boom” and known as “Generation Y,” are known as Millennials.

While everyone hates us, we’re actually some of the greatest people you’ll ever meet. Sure, you may think “ugh, what a typical Millennial thing to say,” but, some of us aren’t as bad as you all make us out to be. Sure, you think we’re lazy and entitled – but a lot of us came up with some of the great technology, apps, social media channels and websites you obsess over (how do you think PizzaBottle came to life? Exactly).

It seems, however, that Generation X is sick and tired of being grouped into the mix with Generation Y and they’ve decided to come up with a new name for themselves.

I give you, Xennials.

Basically, everyone who was born in the late 70’s-early 80’s do not want to be thrown into the Millennial stigma that we get associated with.

Associate Professor of Sociology Dan Woodman fromTR Ashworth says:

“It was a particularly unique experience. You have a childhood, youth and adolescence free of having to worry about social media posts and mobile phones. It was a time when we had to organize to catch up with our friends on the weekends using the landline, and actually pick a time and a place and turn up there. Then we hit this technology revolution before we were maybe in that frazzled period of our life with kids and no time to learn anything new. We hit it where we could still adopt in a selective way the new technologies.”

So, make sure you don’t make the mistake of calling a Xennial a Millennial – you might get a long, long lecture. Or, a swift kick in the ass.
