Coffee Shop Owner Teaches Everyone That Manners Are Actually Important

Save money by saying “please” and “thank you.”

In today’s day and age, it seems that everyone is always in such a hurry that we neglect to remember that people deserve to be treated with respect and manners. We never say “please” or “thank you” to people anymore, because we forget what it’s like to be kind.

When we’re in a rush to grab our morning coffee on the way to work – we hardly ever make conversation with our baristas and remember that they’re people too.

One coffee shop owner decided to make sure his customers treated his employees with respect by implementing the perfect incentive – cheaper coffee.

Outside of his store, Austin Simms put this sign:

When speaking to a local news outlet, Simms said:

“I decided because I need to solve all the injustices of the world to start charging more for people who didn’t take the time to say hello and connect and realize we’re all people behind the counter.”

People were so impressed with the notion to upcharge for being rude, that the story went viral online and made it to the Top 10 on Reddit’s message boards.

It just goes to show you how important it is to be a little more “human,” to your fellow humans.
