An Open Letter To Anyone Who Feels Lost In Life

Don’t worry, you’re not alone.

There comes a point in some people’s lives where they feel like they’re on the wrong path. At 18-years-old, they chose the road they would take for the rest of their lives – being forced into choosing a career that would support them well into their adulthood. But, along the line, they felt as though they may have made a mistake. Did I make the right choice in college major? Am I going to be able to support myself for the remainder of my life? Am I going to be happy with doing this forever?

It’s that uncomfortable, shaky and unknowing feeling that something if off. There’s something wrong, but you can’t exactly put your finger on what it is. There was a reason you took this path, and you want to trust yourself to know what’s best for you. But, there is a shadow lingering over your conscious that tells you “no.”

Stop. Breathe. Take a step back.

There’s nothing wrong with feeling as though you’re not in the right place for you at the moment. It’s healthy, actually, to realize when you’re unsatisfied and unhappy with your life. In fact – it’s healthier to make the realization that you need to make a change, rather than ignore it and settle for the rest of your life.

Often times in life, there are people who become stagnant with where they are at because they’ve reached their maximum potential in that area. There is no more room for them to grow or flourish because they have learned all they can and done the absolute best they can do. They no longer feel challenged or motivated to continue on and instead, begin to feel unhappy and stuck.

This is okay. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with realizing you crave change.

Change is the only thing in life that keeps us on our toes – keeps us excited, interested and motivated to go on. If we stayed in the same place, doing the same thing forever – life would be a real f*cking snooze-fest. And, no one wants to live a boring life.

You may feel as though it’s risky to start over, to change your path or go back to the start. But, wouldn’t you rather know you tried, given yourself the opportunity to feel alive rather than live the rest of your days wondering “what if I had taken that risk?”

The choice is always yours – but be sure that you do it for no one else but you.
