Whenever you post something on the Internet, you leave yourself open to ridicule and scrutiny – especially if you’re a celebrity with millions of followers on your social media feeds. People often times cannot find anything better to do than attack others online, behind their keyboards, because – well, technology of course.
Recently, Katy Perry has become the latest victim of Internet backlash after she posted a religious symbol to her Instagram page – mocking a culture without even realizing it. Perry posted a picture of an Hindu goddess on her feed, captioning it: “current mood.”
The photo features the goddess Kali, who in the Hindu religion, protects the people. Now, people online are attacking the Fireworks singer for insulting and disrespecting a religion she knows nothing about. They also believe the post disrespects the goddess Kali – and, users left nothing off the table for offending their culture and religious beliefs.
But, there were others who practice the Hindu faith that came to Perry’s defense, saying there was nothing offensive or wrong about the image she posted. Instead, they called out others who went against their religious teachings.
