Grimes “Explained” Her Baby’s Weird Name And Then Elon Musk Corrected Her

Social media users have been joking about the futuristic life of Grimes’s and Elon Musk’s baby nonstop since Musk announced his child’s birth on Twitter Tuesday. But while it’s clear their child, X Æ A-12, will be living lightyears ahead of the rest of us, people are still unsure of how to pronounce the baby’s name or how Grimes and Elon Musk came up with it.

There were plenty of memes making fun of Elon Musk’s baby’s name. Luckily, Grimes explained to fans on Twitter what her baby’s name means, and how she thinks it’s pronounced.

X Æ A-12’s name is derived from x, “the unknown variable,” letters for love and artificial intelligence, an aircraft, and Grimes’s favorite song.

Then Elon Musk chimed in to correct her:

Grimes said she thinks X Æ A-12’s name sounds like “the name of the main character in the story,” followed by a Saturn emoji.

“I hope he vibes with that,” Grimes tweeted.

But no one knew what story Grimes was referring to. And when fans still weren’t sure how to pronounce X Æ A-12’s name, they tweeted their best guesses.

Neither Grimes nor Musk has followed up with a clear pronunciation of their baby’s name, and it may be a few days before we get clarification.

But Musk did update followers that baby X Æ A-12 is “happy, healthy, and cute as a button.”
