Tesla shares plummeted 9% after Elon Musk, taking a short break from calling child-rescuing scuba divers pedophiles, smoked a blunt on Joe Rogan’s podcast Thursday night. The two-and-a-half hour episode saw the two men discussing everything from flame throwers to social media to AI, fancy watches, and multiple universes.

Rogan, passing a fat blunt to Musk, told the Tesla CEO that it contained a blend of tobacco and weed and was legal in California. Musk, accepting the blunt, said he “almost never” smoked. “I think I tried it once,” he said, adding “I’m not a regular smoker of weed.” A statement that was cartoonishly emphasized by what happened next:
“I mean, it’s legal, right?” asks Musk, before ripping a fat hit off the blunt but blatantly not inhaling.
As mentioned, this bizarre exchange and the ensuing conversation caused Tesla’s stock to drop. Even less surprising was the immediate trolling and meme-ification of Elon Musk smoking/not-really-smoking a blunt on a YouTube livestream.
Some made fun of Musk for—completely without reason—accusing a Thai cave rescue worker of being a child rapist. Repeatedly. Other for managing to make weed look corny. One user in particular pointed out that the spicy meme works with just about anything.
