**Warning: This post has hella spoilers**
If you’ve watched the latest episode of Game of Thrones titled “The Bells,” there’s a solid chance you have a long list of questions you are demanding answers to. Regardless if you loved the episode or absolutely hated it, we were all leftconfused and wondering WTF even happened that Daenerys snapped from “breaker of chains” to “murderer of every single human being in King’s Landing” and, of course, Varys.
While many fans understand why Varys was killed, there are those who were curious who he was writing to before his death and WTF was up with him removing all of those rings—slowly—before Grey Worm busted into the room to take him down for his final moments.
Right before Grey Worm came in, the camera closes in on Varys’ hands and watches him remove some of his rings—pausing on one in particular with several stones.
Many fans thought that it was weird that the writers focused on Varys taking off his jewelry right before his execution—but, know that in Game of Thrones nothing is there for filler there is a reason for everything.
We already know that many fans believe that Varys was trying to poison Daenerys—as his “little birds” came in to update him that Dany wasn’t eating anything at all, and he had his little minions working in the kitchen, too.
After looking at the episode closely, there’s a new theory that the rings in the scene were the actual objects holding the poison and, specifically, the gem ring is the one that held the poison. With Varys leaving them behind, it leaves someone—anyone—open to obtaining poison to kill Dany (or anyone else for that matter).
It’s important to remember that jewelry to hold poison is not something new in Game of Thrones. In fact, the poison that Olenna Tyrell used to kill Joffrey Baratheon/Lannister was held in the necklace worn by Sansa Stark.
With Littlefingers help, Olenna was able to sneak the poison into the wedding via Sansa’s necklace by hiding it inside one of the gems.
Very slyly, Olenna yanked one of the crystals off of Sansa’s necklace to pour in Joffrey’s wine cup. It was done so smoothly, many fans didn’t even notice.
Varys did spend a lot of time with Tyrion talking before he was killed by Drogon—it’s not impossible to think that Tyrion would know where the poison is, or one of Varys’ little birds spreads the message to Sansa or anyone else that there’s something “left behind” to take care of the “Mad Queen.”
With many of the remaining characters looking straight up anti-Dany, it’s anyone’s game.
