“Stan Twitter, do you know this song?”
You’ve probably seen quite a few tweets floating around online with this all-caps ask. And maybe you watched the clip paired with it and didn’t fully understand the concept, but you saw something familiar from childhood. And for a moment, maybe you bopped out to “The Nations of the World” from Animaniacs or “Determinate” from Disney’s Lemonade Mouth.

This meme is all about attracting folks who forgotten about these old nuggets from movies, TV shows, or even albums from their favorite artists. Just like those Reddit threads that pop up like clockwork now and then asking “does anyone remember this gem?” these tweets are all about trying to one-up each other’s obscure media posts while having fun with the memories.
The best part? You don’t have to stick to songs from real life, real bands, or anything like that. Anything is fair game, really. There are some real blasts from the past here, too.

It’s not like anyone could particularly forget some of these songs and clips, but it’s nice to have a reminder sometimes anyway, right?
But what about the “Stan Twitter” reference? That’s easy. We all know what a “Stan” is, right? Stan Twitter is essentially a community of Extremely Online like-minded individuals who discuss their various fandoms and what they “stan.” Like the song. So, of course, these tweets are riddled with obscure references that a lot of us simply haven’t ever heard of before. That makes the whole thing more fun, honestly.
