Selena Gomez has always been pretty honest with her fans throughout her life. In the past, she had struggled a lot during her battle with lupus, and, opened up to fans about canceled shows, tours, and pushed-back album release dates. Last year, Gomez underwent a kidney transplant donated by her best friend, Francia Raísa. The two shared a beautiful photo on both of their social media profiles, side by side.
I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery. And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis. Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made. As any major surgery would, the kidney transplant left a pretty large scar on Gomez’s body. Recently, while vacationing with friends in Australia, paparazzi captured photos of Gomez in a bikini on a yacht and, released them with her scar in visible site. People began to pick apart her body on social media and say some pretty horrible things about her.
Gomez apparently saw some of the photos and comments people were leaving. In response, Gomez shared a video on her Instagram that she apparently filmed with an important caption about beauty and body positivity.
The beauty myth- an obsession with physical perfection that traps modern woman in an endless cycle of hopelessness, self consciousness, and self-hatred as she tries to fulfill society’s impossible definition of flawless beauty. I chose to take care of myself because I want to, not to prove anything to anyone.
Wind in her sails. ??

Fans began leaving Gomez ‘thank you’ comments for being so strong, brave, and such a good role model.
Keep loving yourself @selenagomez Hurting and insecure people put down others so that they won’t feel so empty and alone inside…I hope you realize this. Never stop shining your light. Keep fighting the good fight?
Never stop taking care of yourself because you want to @selenagomez. I’ve struggled myself with body image but I know that God loves me for who I am and I try every single day to remind myself that I’m beautiful no matter what anyone thinks. You’ve taught me to love myself to be who I am and can’t keep my hands to myself never give up on being you and never give up on what you love doing but most importantly always remember that you don’t have to prove something to somebody you’re worth more to so many people then trying to prove something to someone. Keeping you and never losing sight of what you truly do in life I love you
Sometimes it is important to remind people that we are all human and all the same. We should all do what makes us happy
I have tears in my eyes♥thanks for being a role model?
