There are only a few characters from the original cast that are still left standing on Grey’s Anatomy. While the show has reached its 300th episode, fans are still tuning in every Thursday to see what drama the hospital is cooking up every week. Sure, it’s been a long 14 seasons and a lot of us are pretty tired of seeing the same old thing, but, in a recent interview during the PaleyFest, Justin Chambers dished to Entertainment Tonight about the relationship between Alex and Meredith on Grey’s. In 13 years, these two are the only ones left form the original interns that are still regularly on the show. Izzy got cancer and completely disappeared, Cristina moved on to work somewhere else and George – well George died. While we miss the original cast, it’s nice to still have some people left – and, we do love our newbies, too (how can you get tired of looking at Jesse Williams?)
But, it does seem as though there hasn’t been a fiery love story that really threw us for a loop since McDreamy was around town. And, fans are missing that crazy, stupid love that Meredith and Derek once had – I mean, Riggs and Meredith were cute, but that didn’t even last more than a few episodes. According to Chambers’ interview, there could be a possibility that Alex and Meredith end up together.
I know – I’m like WHAT?!? But, it’s not totally random. Fans of Grey’s have been shipping these two for quite some time. They’ve had their ups and downs, but Meredith has been there for Alex the way no one else has season after season – and vice versa. When ET asked Chambers about their #Merlex fan base, he said:
I think anything is possible. I think friends can become lovers like that, that’s possible too.
So – maaaaaybe there’s hope? He did continue to say:
I’m very comfortable with them being platonic — like brother and sister, and friends. I think that suits them better. But hey, who knows? Nobody knows how things go, you know? I was friends with my wife before we started dating.
That’s more like it. Plus, Shonda is one of those writers that will do anything to throw fans off – I wouldn’t be surprised if she decided to throw us a big giant “Look what you’ve been missing all of these years.” But, Chambers has his eyes set on something else entirely. In fact, he’s rooting for his current on-screen love, Jo.
I’m excited to see what happens with him and Jolex. I think they really love each other. I know they have a lot of obstacles to go through, but it will be interesting to see what conflicts, fires they can put out. Merlex and then Jolex, we’ll see what happens.
Aw, that’s pretty sweet. I would love to see Mer and Alex end up together though – fingers crossed.
