Despite their fame, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have always been refreshingly candid about their marriage in general and relationship issues specifically. It’s this, coupled with their enduring charm and beauty and humor that makes them one of America’s sweetheart couples, AKA #Relationship Goals.
And yet, almost ironically, Kristen gives tons of interviews in which she is so honest with the world so often that Dax sometimes misses it. Understandably, this leads to some awkward conversations.
Kristen related one such story when she appeared on The Talk over the weekend. Like many parents with young children, it can be difficult to find time for intimacy. When Sarah Gilbert asked about the most awkward thing Kristen’s kids had ever walked in on her and her husband doing, Kristen said it was…having sex.
Apparently, Dax hadn’t seen the episode. In his recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he related how a stranger had come up to him and just blurted out some version of what Kristen said:
“She does a ton of interviews, and you know eventually you just run out of stuff to talk about,” Dax said. “I was at a restaurant last night — this is true, this is the honest truth — and this stranger comes up to me and he goes, ‘Hey, I just read your kids walked in on you having sex.’ I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ He goes, ‘Yeah, I saw a headline and your wife said your kids walked in on you having sex.’ I don’t even know that she told that story. I don’t know what version she told of it.”
He goes on to clarify the situation a bit:
“Okay, they didn’t walk in while I was, like, ‘pounding’ Mom. We put on the TV in the living room — we’re bad parents — and then we stole away for a minute, ‘afternoon delight’ … but we were just under the sheets, and they walked in, and it was more just explaining why we were taking, like, ‘a nap’ in the afternoon.”
“It wasn’t full coitus interruptus,” he said, although it was getting there. “Suffice it to say, I couldn’t have gotten out of bed at that moment.”
I personally always wonder, what’s it going to be like when their kids are grown and watching old Jimmy Kimmel interviews? Watch the segment in full below:
