The baker that was on the Titanic, Charles Joughin, actually survived the frigidly cold waters because – he claims he was drunk. That’s right – drunk. Whiskey is apparently the cure for ice-cold water, according to Joughin, who said he didn’t feel the cold water because he was “warm from the whiskey.” He was in the water for over 2 hours before he was finally rescued.

 Much like the film, there were actually two bands on the Titanic that were told to play music to make the panic “simmer down.” While everyone exited the ship in lifeboats, or jumping overboard, the bands played for over two hours. They all ended up dying as the ship sank.
