Game of Thrones has become the biggest phenomenon to hit TV since – I can’t even remember what else has such a huge following because most shows that were this big (The Sopranos, The Wire) didn’t have social media involved in the hype, so, it’s basically the biggest thing since sliced bread.
With the show’s surge in popularity and social media following, people come up with new theories every. damn. day – including us. But, recently, everyone has been obsessed (or sickened) by the idea of Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen hooking up.
Sure, it’s romantic to think about the Wolf and the Dragon – the Ice and the Fire – getting together, but now that we know Jon is Dany’s nephew, it’s not as romantic. At least, for me that is.
But, according to the author of the actual series (books) George R. R. Martin, this romantic meeting has been set for years. That’s right – he knew the entire time he was going to have Jon and Dany get it on, dire wolf style, but we had no clue.
According to Alan Taylor, the director of the previous Game of Thrones episode “Beyond the Wall,” in Season One, Martin was saying that Dany and Jon were going to become the center of the entire series come the end – and that was back in Season One, when we had dozens and dozens of characters to focus on.
Taylor said:
Anyways, he alluded to the fact that Jon and Dany were the point, kind of. That, at the time, there was a huge, vast array of characters, and Jon was a lowly, you know, bastard son. So it wasn’t clear to us at the time, but he did sort of say things that made it clear that the meeting and the convergence of Jon and Dany were sort of the point of the series. So, I was happy that a big step forward was taken in the episode I got to do this season is where he has fallen for her both, you know, emotionally and politically I think.
Basically – they were always bound to get it on, nephew and aunt or not. So, there goes my hopes and dreams, crushed. I was always secretly hoping Khal Drogo came back from the dead.
But, I guess anything is possible (or not) on Game of Thrones.
