Just on the heels of the epic Destiny’s Child reunion at Coachella 2018, Michelle Williams has some big news to share with the world–she’s engaged!
While appearing on “The Real,” Williams opened up about her cheating ex-boyfriend who had broken her heart right before she met Johnson. They told People Magazine.
“I was in a horrible, dark place. I just needed to go somewhere where I could get a message of hope and restoration, rejuvenation — get connected to God.”
She decided to attend a spiritual retreat in Arizona that Johnson was running at the time. Johnson is a pastor and life coach–having an extensive resume of working with celebrities and pro sports athletes.
Johnson said the two were “in very similar places” when they met.
Michelle was coming off the heels of a really bad relationship, and I was just in a place of despair as well.
Johnson also said that he wasn’t the smoothest when he tried to flirt with Williams.
“I tried to roll in with some mac daddy game — and I tried to flirt a little bit and said something like, ‘How about you and I connect sometime?’ And right away, she texted right back with one word and six question marks behind it: ‘Connect?????? I thought she had dissed me. So I was embarrassed, and I didn’t reach back out to her because I thought I’d ruined the friendship.”
The two were talking, mostly over text and DM’s before hanging out in person.
“We spent almost three months without even seeing each other, just building a strong foundation on the phone and through FaceTime; it was really built on friendship and communication.”
Williams said she was hesitant to tell anyone about her relationship with Johnson in the beginning, due to her rocky past.
I didn’t even tell any people I was talking to Chad. I wanted to treat this relationship differently because obviously, all my past relationships have failed. I didn’t want to talk about another relationship that possibly wasn’t gonna go anywhere.
And, Johnson proposed really adorably, too. An exact year after the two met, Johnson proposed rather sweetly. He even spent the entire month prior going on a “proposal tour,” asking her family and friends for “their blessing.”
“We were replaying the whole text message, recreating the moment. I was like, ‘Hey, what about if you and me connected?’ She sent me back a text saying, ‘I’ll check my availability.’ And I signaled over to the waiter, and she brought out the iPad and played the video of me being on the proposal tour.”
We’re not crying, you’re crying. Okay, we’re crying, too.
