This Roy Moore Spokesman Gave An Absolute Train-Wreck Interview On Live TV Last Night

You may have a little glimmer of optimism by now knowing that Doug Jones became the first Democrat in a generation to win a Senate seat in Alabama, beating out Republican and documented pedophile Roy Moore and embarrassing Trump in the process. Maybe the world isn’t as horrifically doomed as we all thought.

But besides the comforting knowledge that women and black folks were almost wholly responsible for this awesome upset, as well as the fact that Moore’s loss may fan the flames of the Democratic fire calling for Congress to investigate Trump’s own sexual misconduct, we are also gifted this video of Ted Crockett.

Ted Crockett, a surrogate for GOP candidate Roy Moore, made one last-ditch effort on behalf of the disgraced senator last Tuesday evening when he appeared on The Lead with Jake Tapper. Although the entirety of the conversation is fairly baffling, there is one exchange that truly makes one wonder at the mental capacity of our political leaders.

This moment was when the CNN host asks Crockett why Moore believes Muslim members of Congress should not be allowed to serve in Congress. Tapper responds that it is because Muslims cannot swear on the Christian Bible. The CNN host then informs Ted Crockett that “You don’t actually have to swear on a Christian Bible, you can swear on anything, really. I don’t know if you knew that.”

He didn’t.

Tapper: “Moore also said that he doesn’t think a Muslim member of Congress should be allowed to be in Congress. Why? Under what provision of the Constitution?”

Crockett, talking over Tapper: “Because you have to swear on the bible– when–before– I had to do it, I’m an elected official, three times I had to swear on a Bible, you have to swear on a Bible to be an elected official in the United States of America, he alleges that a muslim cannot do that ethically, swearing on the Bible.”

Tapper: “You don’t actually have to swear on a Christian Bible, you can swear on anything, really. I don’t know if you knew that. You can swear on a Jewish Bible–”

Crockett, interrupting, again: “Ohhh no, I swore on the Bible, I’ve done it three times.”

Tapper: “I’m sure you have, I’m sure you’ve picked a Bible, but the law is not that you have to swear on a Christian Bible, that is not the law.”

Crockett:

Tapper: “You don’t know that?”

Crockett:

Crockett: “I know Donald Trump did it when we made him President–”

Tapper: “Because he’s Christian and he picked it, that’s what he wanted to swear in on. Ted Crockett with the Moore campaign, thank you so much for being here.”

Crockett:

If this doesn’t inspire you to drain the swamp…I’m not sure what will. Perfect bookend to this trash election!
