The Hill reported on the unveiling of the White House’s annual holiday theme earlier today, which this year, appropriately enough, is “Time-Honored Traditions.” The theme was picked out by first lady Melania Trump and meant to pay “respect to 200 years of holiday traditions at the White House,” read a statement from FLOTUS’ press office.

The White House credited Melania with personally selecting “every detail of this year’s holiday season,” including the ones that when combined, set a somewhat horrifying scene in what looks to be the East Wing. Melania Trump’s director of communications Stephanie Grisham shared a tweet earlier today featuring a picture of white branches amid a dark hallway, and needless to say, Twitter went off.
It’s an apt metaphor for Trump’s time as president, really. Dead trees, an ever-present sense of bleakness, an exaggerated emphasis on white vs. black…Many were quick to compare Melania’s decor with horror/cult films such as The Shining, Beetlejuice, The Blair Witch Project, and A Nightmare Before Christmas.
I photoshopped Jack Skellington into Melania's Christmas decor and honestly I like it now. pic.twitter.com/hqx1QYBGhI

…Did she take her decorating inspiration from "The Blair Witch Project"? This is the exact opposite of holiday cheer.

Why do the White House Christmas decorations look like the stick labyrinth at the end of Season 1 of True Detective pic.twitter.com/jl0mHJjgRb
