We Need To Stop Slut-Shaming Girls Every Halloween

Halloween has become a huge holiday for millennials. It is a reason to party, eat tons of sweets and of course dress up as someone you’re not for the night. With Halloween just a few short days away, it is important to address this controversial topic yet again.

As if it is not bad enough that women already have to feel self-conscious about what they wear due to the ridicule they already face; but now on Halloween (when they’re pretending to be someone they’re not) they still feel self-conscious.

The purpose of Halloween from what I recall is to dress up as something that you are not in real life. We all dress as something we are not, men included, so to be called a “slut” for wearing something that has no representation of who you really are is just mind-blowing to me.

A man can dress as a “Magic Mike” stripper for Halloween, wearing very little clothing and it’s okay; but if a woman wears a robe out pretending to be a Victoria’s Secret Angel, she’s a slut.

The double standard here is so clear and SO unfair.

You can’t call a girl a slut for wearing an outfit that does not represent herself or who she is. A costume does not represent who anyone is. Side note, it’s okay for women to like sex too. Men talk about their sexuality all the time so if women want to talk about it too; let them. It doesn’t make them a slut.

Halloween also brings out more cases of unnecessary slut-shaming, but fat-shaming as well. It is terrible that a holiday that is supposed to be fun sparks such controversy. To say that women can not wear a costume that exposes too much of her body because she is fat is absolutely absurd. If the women wearing the costume is comfortable no one has any right to say a word.

1. It is her body.

A woman is entitled to feel however she wants about her own body because it is hers. If she wants to show it and flaunt it, she is allowed to do so.

2. It is her choice.

It is every woman’s choice to dress up and pretend to be whoever she wants to be. Unless you are going to ridicule a man for dressing up as a stripper you can’t say a word. Look at the universal Risky Business costume that both men and women where. Why is it okay for a man to walk around in a boxer and big t-shirt but a woman can’t?

3. Your opinions don’t matter.

It is about time society realized their opinions of women don’t matter. The great thing about living in such a harsh society is that communities come together to support one another. We as women know that we aren’t sluts for dressing as something we are not. But, you all are cowards for ridiculing us for dressing up a specific way for Halloween when you do the same.

4. A costume does not represent who she is.

Her heart, personality, her thoughts, and brain make her who she is. She is not a slut.
